Using Operations Research our consultants simulated numerous different attendance scenarios for these critical events. Inputs included minute-by-minute changes in visitors, diverse voice and data service usage and abnormal user mobility throughout each event. Our methodology provided the client with recommendations for an optimal network configuration that guaranteed end-user performance throughout each event, while concurrently containing costs and keeping temporary network disruption to a minimum.

Brand Protection for a Tier 1 Mobile Operator

Our Operations Research team identified that there was a poor correlation between real-world demand for mobile services and the ongoing configuration of the mobile network. The root cause was traced to a sub-optimal design and planning process that was resulting in poor quality of service for the end user coupled with network and process inefficiencies.

Our client was launching Mobile Data Services in New York City and was concerned about the performance of their network at launch given immense competition, data service pricing volatility and the unpredictable uptake of services.

Our Solution
Using Operations Research methodologies our consultants simulated diverse service uptake scenarios for New York's urban canyon environment that has unique radio coverage challenges. We pinpointed the risk of a complete network failure and also identified other service performance risks associated with the planned network paging area and location area configuration. We provided recommendations on an optimal design for launch that negated these risks.
